La Bohème Meets the Modern Seaside

This eclectic look was inspired by several eras of fashion, molded into one carefree ensemble. What we refer to today as "Boho Chic" began after the French Revolution, when poor artists adopted a gypsy-like lifestyle & wore used clothing, that was tattered & worn out.

The kimono (H&M) works for this look, since many of the clothes worn by the Bohemians, originated in the far east. The jeans are Calvin Klein, purchased in California circa 1988, that I cut into shorts. Although these shorts have a 1980's vibe, the tattered edges are very reminiscent of the clothing associated with a poor Bohemian lifestyle. While the black, lace bandeau (Victoria's Secret Pink) adds an edgy, yet sexy accent.

For that exotic/hippie style, I used a combination of new & vintage jewelry . This specific look gives you creative freedom to mix various colors & types of jewelry. I incorporated large earrings & a vintage necklace. I also layered on several bracelets & rings, that are different styles & colors, for a unique contrast.

Hair: I created those long sought after beach waves by using Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray & Hair Cream.

Makeup: To stay within the beach theme & create a bronze glow, I used Nars tinted moisturizer in Alaska, blush by Guerlain in 02 Brunettes Hâlées & Too Faced matte bronzing powder in Chocolate Soleil. On my eyes I applied eye-shadow in Half Baked (I also applied a small amount of this color on my cheekbones) & Smog from the original Urban Decay Naked pallet. Next I lined my eyes with Burberry eyeliner in Poppy Black & used Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill mascara. Finally, I applied
lip gloss by Trish McEvoy in Gorgeous Pink Shimmer.

Hello Nadia, wonderful post. How could this look be achieved a little bit more on the conservative side, for those without a flat stomach?

Hi Justine! Thank you so much! Anyone can achieve a similar look through a number of ways. Perhaps high wasted pants with a loose fitting crop top that reaches just over the top of the pants. You will still get the look of a crop top, but it is much more conservative since you won't be showing any skin. Also, Bohemian/hippie style clothing can be very loose fitting & flowy. Long & loose fitted flowy tops, with a pair of leggings or ripped jeans would be cool! Or a casual t-shirt & maxi skirt. You could even try the same look I did! Just replace the bandeau with a fitted tank top that's tucked into your pants, with a kimono over it or even an unbuttoned flannel, if you want that 90's look. Funky prints & lots of jewelry will really help make this outfit stand out. Don't be afraid to experiment! My most important tip is to wear what you feel most comfortable in & what makes you happy! :)
