Kevin Shahroozi Fashion Show

This past Saturday night, Manhattan's sleek Tribeca Grand Hotel hosted Kevin Shahroozi's dark and edgy fashion show.

The Fall 2014 Collection of both men's- and women's - wear is aptly described by the designer as “the calm after the storm”. The majority of pieces in the collection were solid tones and included dark colors such as blue, grey and black, with stark splashes of white.

Kevin Shahroozi said he was inspired to create this collection after a “dark storm” occurred in his life. “Within a one week time frame, my girlfriend broke up with me and my grandmother ended up in the hospital. This dark storm is the reason for the dark colors in the collection - black, dark blue, grey, etc. It is called the storm but I was the furthest thing from calm” said the talented New York City designer in an email to me.

Often times my go-to outfit for a night out is a fitted blazer and a pair of leather pants. Which is why I was pleased to see that many of the pieces in the collection were structured jackets, blazers and leather pants. The women’s pieces in the collection also had a strong and masculine vibe, which I appreciated.

After premiering in 2003, Americas Next Top Model became one of my favorite TV shows that I would watch religiously. I was captivated by how beautiful the models were and was amazed by the extravagant & elaborate photoshoots. Watching the show each week, I would become caught up in a daydream… Often wondering what it would be like to model, or how well I would do as a contestant on the show.  If someone had approached me during my awkward, bushy eyebrowed, middle school years & told me I would one day be modeling, I would probably be in complete shock!

Well, here I am almost a decade later, being photographed by Sara Racey-Tabrizi, who is one of the original contestants from America Next Top Model! Sara is currently signed with one of the top modeling agencies in the world, but has also found a passion for being behind the camera. She is a talented photographer & is able to capture the true emotion of her subject.

Spending the afternoon in SoHo, we utilized the City's unique street art & eclectic restaurants, as the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot.

My outfit for the day consisted of a necklace by INC from Macy's, a simple black tank top & black leather jacket from Forever 21, white Michael Kors skinny jeans (yes I wore white pants on the subway) & a black leather satchel from Mango.

The neutral colors are very chic & simple, while the gold necklace is bold & the perfect eye catching accessory! Although the tank top & leather jacket are the same color, the contrast in fabric helped each piece stand out. While the white pants add a color break between the black top & my black stilettos.
